28.6.2012. - Vacation Time: Intelligent Security Technology Takes The Pla

Winnweiler/Langmeil, Germany 28 June 2012 Breaking and entering is far more common in Germany than other types of crimes. A house or apartment is broken into every four minutes, and this trend is on the rise. According to police statistics, the number of these types of crimes in Germany rose by 9.3 percent in 2011, resulting in a total of 132,595 cases – the highest number in ten years. In over 80 percent of these cases, the perpetrator could not be identified and the crime clearance rate was only 16.2 percent. Statistics showed financial damages to be nearly €430 million. In the summer, most break-ins occur during the day, so it is no wonder that summer vacation season is the best time of the year for criminals as well. Intelligent security technology such as high resolution video security systems from German-based MOBOTIX help to prevent breaking in entering. According to a study conducted by the independent institution VdS, over a third of all break-ins can be prevented by the use of security technology.

Choosing The Right Camera Is Very Important

A camera that delivers high quality images during the day and night is required in order to provide the highest possible security around the clock. The D14D camera from MOBOTIX is designed to protect all kinds of properties from theft. Thanks to its two parallel camera modules with two lenses, the D14D camera records high quality images (up to 6.2 megapixels), even in poor lighting conditions. If the camera is installed outdoors, it must be weatherproof. If you want to prevent potential burglars from discovering the camera and damaging it or simply taking it with them, MOBOTIX also offer a model with vandalism protection. The MOBOTIX camera also detects changes in the direction of the lens. If, for example, an object is thrown at the D14D, the camera is able to record video of the offender while simultaneously informing a security company. Red alarm LEDs and a sound or announcement may also stop a vandalism attempt and discourage the person involved from committing further offenses.

Positioning The Camera

The camera must be positioned so that it can capture the object in question and record images that show all of the important details. The D14-180° uses two sensors to generate a high-resolution 180° panorama image, allowing to record all the events in front of a building with just one camera. In addition to providing a 180° panorama view, the camera image can be adjusted to focus on individual areas of interest. The image is panned and zoomed electronically without any mechanical movement, meaning that there is no wear and tear to the camera and no maintenance is required. The camera also allows zooming in to view details in higher resolution. This way, for example, license plates can be read and faces can be magnified. This helps the police to find the perpetrators later on.

Caught Red-Handed

A visible camera is always the first hurdle for potential burglars. However, if a crime does occur, a megapixel IP camera from MOBOTIX delivers detailed, high-resolution images that help to identify the perpetrator. In addition, the MOBOTIX system allows users to return to the recording at a later time and view all areas of the video, even if the live image was focused in on a particular area at the time of the recording. In addition, the user can set alarms to be triggered based on pre-defined events. This way, if a specific event occurs, the camera immediately sends a text message or an e-mail to a defined contact or calls a predefined telephone number. This makes it possible to inform the police in time to catch the offender red-handed. Authorized users can view this video data live from anywhere in the world using their PC, notebook, tablet or smartphone.
