Mx2wire: PoE via two Telephone Wires

Langmeil/Hannover, March 4, 2009. At CeBIT 2009 (hall 11, stand D03), Mobotix AG, manufacturer of high-resolution, complete IP video systems, presents a new security solution: With Mx2wire video surveillance can be easily added to already existing buildings and structures.

Using Mx2wire nodes from Mobotix, an Ethernet network extending up to 500 meter can be established with PoE (Power over Ethernet) using two telephone wires. This means that, for example, an existing two-wire analogue telephone cable can be used to connect a 100 MB Ethernet device (for instance, PC, WLAN, IP camera, IP telephone or IP door station).

Power supply included

The data rate is up to 40 Mbps. For 500 meter bell wire, approximately 15 Mbps data is transferred. An Mx2wire device is required at each end of the wire. The two Mx2wire nodes are powered via PoE from the network cable that feeds in. The connected devices are supplied with up to 8 watt via PoE, since in addition to the network signal, the PoE signal that is fed in is also transferred.

Mx2wire is supplied in the usual socket frames in different designs; however, it can also be used with the wall-mount socket provided. The device set consists of two Mx2wire sockets and costs 398 euro. The system was developed by Mobotix, manufactured in Germany and is also used in the new Mobotix IP door intercoms.
